Google has prepared for the release of a more affordable version in its line of smartphones ─ Pixel 8a . Despite some updates, the new product has retained the price of its predecessor.
The Pixel 8a smartphone has a 6.1-inch display with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and (a first for the average Google) a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Other new features include Google's Tensor G3 processor, the same (with minor technical tweaks) flagship chip found in the Pixel 8. Battery capacity has also increased — from 4385 mAh in Pixel 7a to 4492 mAh in Pixel 8a. The smartphone body has more rounded corners. Google promises to provide OS updates for 7 years, so the phone should remain current until 2031.
Other specs are consistent with the Pixel 7a. The new product has 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of built-in UFS 3.1 storage, an on-screen fingerprint scanner, and supports 18 W wired charging and 5 W wireless charging. The camera has also not changed. Users have access to a 64-megapixel main module, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module and a front camera with a 13-megapixel sensor. The housing provides dust and water protection according to IP67 standard.
The Google Pixel 8a smartphone is already available for pre-order at a price of $499, and actual sales will begin on May 14. The new product is available in black, white, green and blue colors.
