A special edition of the Alpina B3 was unveiled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the BMW store in South Africa. Finished in the iconic Alpina Green II color, the sedan rides on 20-inch Alpina multi-spoke wheels. The car received Alpina lettering on the front spoiler and side decals in retro style, like in the 1980s.
If you open the doors, the Alpina branded thresholds and a special sign on the center console, indicating the exclusivity of the car, immediately catch your eye. The manufacturer produced five of these cars in total, and all of them received a black leather interior with a special BMW Group South Africa 50th anniversary logo on the headrests. The interior also features green and white stitching and a leather steering wheel with Alpina logo.
The special edition is based on the more powerful updated B3 sedan, introduced in 2022. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine produces 488 hp. and a huge torque of 538 Nm of torque, transmitted to both axles through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It takes 3.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h and has a top speed of 305 km/h.
Alpina equipped this B3 with a sports suspension with adjustable damping. In addition, engineers from Buchloe install upgraded brakes with cross-drilled discs and heat-resistant brake pads. Engineers worked on tuning the chassis and steering, and also installed a new exhaust system. The car offers four driving modes: Comfort+, Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
The sports sedan, whose full name is BMW Alpina B3 50 Years of BMW South Africa Edition, sold out in a matter of seconds, despite the high price of $162,400.
