At 65-95 km
Tesla has released a new version of its Model Y Long Range RWD that replaces the regular rear-wheel drive model at $44,990 and offers a range of 515 km. The starting price for the Model Y has increased by $2,000, but the range has increased by about 100 km. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 6.5 seconds.
For another $3,000 you can upgrade to all-wheel drive with extended range. According to CEO Elon Musk, Tesla will soon allow the previously released rear-wheel drive Model Y with a 265-mile range to unlock more range by paying between $1,500 and $2,000, depending on the battery pack.
«The range of Model Y cars released in the last few months can be increased from 415 km to 65-95 km for $1,500–2,000, depending on what battery cells are included you are, — wrote Musk. — To achieve this, we are working to obtain regulatory approvals».
When asked why Tesla couldn’t give such a gift to users for free, he replied: «We need to pay the bills somehow».
