This will be a whole global network
Despite the fact that artificial intelligence in the form of ChatGPT, other large language models and other similar options has actually only been on the market for a year, the shortage of accelerators for AI is already such that Nvidia’s queue has stretched for at least a year. The situation will clearly only get worse, and the head of OpenAI wants to solve it in a radical way.
Sam Altman is reportedly looking for investors to invest billions of dollars in new AI chip factories. We are talking about an entire global network of factories, and not just one new factory.
Altman has already held negotiations with a number of major market players, including SoftBank and the G42 group of companies from the UAE.
Negotiations are at an early stage, so there are no specific details yet. But considering that the same Intel, Samsung or TSMC sometimes invest more than $10 billion in the construction of one new plant, Altman’s project clearly requires simply colossal investments.
