By the end of 2024, Mir cards will already account for 70% of the turnover

General Director of the National Payment Card System Vladimir Komlev predicts that Visa and MasterCard cards may go out of circulation in Russia in 2025. So far, they account for about 40% of the total Russian turnover on bank cards, but this share will decrease, but the NSPK and the Central Bank are not going to speed up the process.

If we talk about card transactions, I probably won’t be lying too much if I say that 40% of turnovers still pass through the plastic of the old Visa Mastercard payment systems that have left the market. <…> I really think that now this will be a very natural smooth process, which, frankly speaking, does not need to be regulated. It will naturally, in an economic way, come to naught. This was all a rather finely tuned process. We took such a principled position for ourselves, did «freeze», and this is the state we maintain.

Vladimir Komlev

According to his forecast, within a year the «World» will already account for 70% of the turnover: «It will probably gradually, as I already said, die out on its own, and we will probably need to say, together with the banks, at some point, guys, there are three cards left, two transactions . Let's close this topic synchronously, all together, clean up the balances, and from some point on these cards won't be used anymore».

But it’s too early to make such a decision and it’s worth waiting for the turnover on these cards to decrease.
