In the near future, Unity will say goodbye to even more employees. The company announced it was laying off 265 employees (about 4% of its workforce) and closing Unity offices in 14 other locations, including Berlin and Singapore.

According to a statement from Unity, the layoffs are due to the termination of cooperation with Weta FX, the company responsible for graphic effects in the films of the “Lord of the Rings” series.

The company's CEO Jim Whitehurst calls the current situation a “Unity reset” to return the corporation's financial position to normal. Unity currently employs about 7,000 people.

Over the past 18 months, the game engine developers have said goodbye to about 1,100 employees. And the restructuring continues. Recently, CEO John Richitello also said goodbye to Unity, blaming it for poor decisions regarding the payment of new developers.
