Toyota has created an internal combustion engine that cleans the air

It removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere

Toyota has created and began testing a new internal combustion engine that does not pollute the atmosphere, but on the contrary — cleanses it. And although we are only talking about a prototype, which is far from perfect, the technology itself is interesting.

Japanese engineers installed a filter system on a hydrogen internal combustion engine that captures carbon dioxide and, under the influence of the heat of the power plant, turns it into liquid. «Supergreen» The power plant was tested on a Toyota GR Corolla and demonstrated performance, but efficiency was low: in 20 laps around the race track, the car filtered only about 20 grams of carbon dioxide. For comparison: an average passenger car emits about 9 kg of carbon dioxide when burning 15 liters of fuel.

It is not yet known whether Toyota is going to bring the development to the stage of mass production, but if this happens, it is unlikely in the next few years.
