Announcement expected in July
The pre-production 2025 BMW M5 has been spotted on public roads, with stock headlights and a charging port, as carscoops writes.
The seventh-generation M5 isn't expected to deviate too much from the familiar recipe, but will mark some major powertrain updates. Unlike its Mercedes-AMG E-Class rival, which will downsize from a V8 to an inline-six engine and make up the shortfall with hybrid support, the M5 will retain the V8 but add an electric motor.
Rumors suggest that the M5 will inherit the 4.4-liter plug-in hybrid V8 engine from the XM Label Red SUV, but slightly modified. It will produce 738 hp. and 1030 Nm of torque.
It is reported that the new sedan will weigh 2435 kg – more than 454 kg heavier than before – and the Touring station wagon will be even heavier.
The front and rear LED lights, the shape of the lower bumper and a pair of horizontal grilles are on full display in these spy shots. In addition, a charging port is visible on the driver's side fender just behind the front wheel.
The presentation of the new M5 is expected to take place in July this year.
