All thanks to a good screen
The Steam Deck OLED handheld game console in some ways works better with the PlayStation 5 than the PlayStation Portal.
Valve's updated console has received support for the Remote Play HDR function, which PS Portal does not have. True, support is still unofficial: it is implemented through the open source Chiaki4Deck application.
This feature was possible due to the fact that the new Valve console is equipped with an OLED screen with HDR support. PS Portal, let us remind you, has an IPS panel and does not support HDR.
It is worth saying that the original version of Steam Deck can work in a similar way, but since its display does not support HDR, the mode will only be active when the console is connected to a monitor or TV that supports HDR. It’s also worth saying that this mode only works when streaming from PlayStation 5.
