It looks like China has quietly unveiled the world's most powerful supercomputer. Tianhe Xingyi is based on Chinese CPUs

But much remains unknown

China appears to have been able to build its own exascale supercomputer without Intel, AMD or Nvidia chips.

We are talking about the Tianhe Xingyi system, which, it seems, was originally called Tianhe-3 and was planned for launch back in 2019.

The supercomputer is based on Chinese FeiTeng MT3000 processors based on Arm architecture. Peak performance should supposedly be 1.7 ExaFLOPS, which is more than the current leader of the Top500 list.

There are no parameters for the CPUs used yet, so it’s difficult to say how modern the processors themselves are, because ultra-high performance of the entire system can be achieved simply by using a huge number of these same processors. Also, these CPUs probably cannot boast of energy efficiency, since they are unlikely to be manufactured outside of China using any of the modern technical processes.

Unfortunately, China no longer transfers its data to the authors of the Top500 project, therefore, even if we are talking about the most productive supercomputer in the world, we may never know any clear details.
