Shanghai already has more than 1000 roads with a total length of more than 2000 km for testing unmanned vehicles

A new test site for self-driving cars has opened in Shanghai. Its differences from previous similar sections — long distance (205 km) and the use of 5G-A IOV (5G-Advanced Internet of Vehicles) technology.

A feature of 5G-A IOV is that the delay in data transmission has been reduced from 50 to 20 ms. It was developed by China Mobile in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, self-driving vehicle developer Neolix Huitong Technology, digital traffic solutions provider Banma Network Technology, and smart navigation map company Navinfo.

Shanghai now has 1,003 roads with a total length of more than 2,000 kilometers for testing unmanned vehicles. Companies developing self-driving systems must first pass road tests before they can put their self-driving cars into commercial use. So far, Shanghai has issued licenses for road testing and pilot operation of 794 vehicles from 32 manufacturers, including the American General Motors (it received permission for road testing in August last year).
