Audi A6 Avant E-Tron coming next year
Audi is making an electric station wagon, which may be called the A6 Avant E-Tron. Spy shots show a production-ready car with almost no camouflage.
There is still some camouflage on the front and back of the car, which also covers the headlights. Split headlights are a trend these days, so the Audi A6 Avant E-Tron will follow the Q6 E-Tron and the next-generation Q3 with two headlight levels. In this case, the side cameras will replace conventional mirrors.
Audi has already announced that the combustion engine model will eventually join the A7 line-up to leave room for the electric-only A6 family. The same story will happen with the A4 and A5 models. But when the car debuts next year, Audi's first electric estate will face stiff competition from day one, with the BMW i5 Touring just a few steps away.
A6 Avant E-Tron will be one of the first Volkswagen Group products to use the PPE platform developed by Audi together with Porsche. The Audi Q6 E-Tron and A6 E-Tron sedan/liftback will be the first to receive this platform, which will also be used in the next generation Macan.
Audi is not giving up on station wagons with internal combustion engines. The petrol/diesel A5 Avant arrives in 2024, when we'll also see the hotter RS6 Avant. The company has promised to continue producing ICE vehicles until 2033, but the last new vehicles with conventional powertrains will be released in 2025.
