“Only at the start there is a barely noticeable jerk”
Editor-in-Chief of «Behind the Wheel» Maxim Kadakov studied in detail the new version of the Lada Vesta AT with an automatic transmission, under which a CVT is hidden. All cars with the AT prefix, regardless of configuration, are only 65 thousand rubles more expensive than the version with a manual transmission.
As «Behind the wheel» writes, the CVT18 variator from WanLiYang was adjusted to the AvtoVAZ engine with the direct cooperation of engineers and programmers of the Russian plant and WanLiYang.
The main virtue [probably means the main virtue — approx. ed.] «Vesta» with CVT — excellent coherence with the 1.8 Evo engine (122 hp). The calibrations are so well chosen that you quickly forget about “variation.” Only at the start there is a barely noticeable jerk (you need to be a little more careful with the gas pedal), and then — confident increase in speed. If you press the pedal with all your heart, the CVT simulates shifting through seven quasi-gears. Mows under hydraulic automatic — It’s more familiar, more convenient. That is why the VAZ people are being cunning by calling the car nothing more than «Vesta AT» — «with automatic transmission».
