RuneScape has a long history and is still very popular in 2024. Jagex has changed hands again

Jagex, the company responsible for the popular MMORPG RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, announced a change in ownership of the company. This is the fifth sale transaction.

Investment advisory firms CVC Capital Partners (CVC Funds) and Haveli Investments have become owners of Jagex. The terms of the deal were not disclosed in the statement, but journalists previously received information about the amount of 900 million pounds sterling (or about 1.1 billion dollars).

Authors of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape assured the community that they would not compromise the integrity of the games or change the business model.

Not all users appreciated such a “typical corporate” statement and criticized the current monetization model, which is described as “predatory.”
