Similar problems occurred with OnePlus 11 last year
The newest flagship OnePlus 12, which became a hit first in China and then in the international market, turned out to be tied to the region, at least in its Chinese version. The Chinese version of OnePlus 12 is significantly cheaper than the global version, especially compared to prices for Europe. However, thrifty users who ordered «Chinese» with delivery to your region, we encountered unexpected problems.
As originally reported by the Chinese thematic resource Gizmochina, region blocking was introduced on Chinese versions of OnePlus 12 after the global variation of the flagship became available.
Users are facing issues similar to those encountered with OnePlus 11 last year. Russian users, among others, complain about limitations in the functionality of phones with Chinese firmware. However, the problem is observed not only in Russia, but also in other regions where Chinese versions of the smartphone are imported. When installing a SIM card, the user sees a notification warning that the phone is «adapted for a certain region», restrictions apply, for example, to cellular communications – you cannot make regular phone calls.
Like last year, users will be able to unlock the region by entering a special code. It can be obtained by contacting OnePlus support. However, it is unclear whether the support team will be willing to unlock phones purchased not through official Chinese channels, but from third-party stores. The company itself has not yet issued an explanation on this matter.
