Apple sales have dropped noticeably
In the first quarter of 2024, Apple faced serious headwinds in the Chinese smartphone market. Despite global growth in smartphone shipments, Apple experienced a sharp 19% decline in iPhone sales in China, its worst performance since 2020.
This decline caused market share to fall from 19.7% to 15.7% compared to the previous year, causing Apple to fall to third place behind Vivo and Honor. The decline in iPhone sales can be attributed to various factors. In particular, this was influenced by the government ban on employees using Apple devices.
Equally problematic, however, was the grand comeback of Huawei, whose sales soared by almost 70% thanks to the successful launch of the Mate 60 series. This surge brought Huawei to fourth place, and the company captured 15.5% of the market.
Counterpoint Research analysts suggest a possible improvement in iPhone sales dynamics, supported by the introduction of new color options and aggressive sales initiatives.
Apple's next financial report will be published on April 2.
