He was able to accelerate to 160 km/h with a full load
The first urban hydrogen train has been tested in China, reports Xinhua. The train was produced by local company CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles, and the test run took place at its test line in Changchun City, Jilin Province in Northeast China. It is indicated that the train managed to accelerate to 160 km/h, and the tests took place with a full load, full-scale tests were carried out checking all characteristics and parameters, as well as various possible scenarios.
The new train is equipped with an integrated hydrogen fuel power system and uses a hybrid power supply system with several energy storage devices. According to the creators, the integration of various systems significantly increases energy efficiency: the train’s energy consumption does not exceed 5 kilowatt-hours per kilometer. Maximum train range — more than 1000 kilometers, it is capable of operating in a temperature range from -25 to 35°C.
So far, there is no information about when such trains will fully operate in the Chinese transport system. And in Russia, as we already wrote, the first prototype of a hydrogen fuel train may appear no earlier than 2025.
