The save system of Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox Series works in a peculiar way, and progress is often lost. Larian and Microsoft are looking for a way out of this situation
The save system does not work correctly in Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S. Players can easily lose dozens of hours of progress, causing frustration.
Larian reached out to the Baldur's Gate 3 community to explain how to avoid losing saves on Xbox Series X|S:
- Create an account at https://larian.com/account
- Go to Baldur's Gate 3 and the options menu activate cross-saves (link between Xbox and Larian accounts)
- Now the last 5 saves will be automatically uploaded to Larian servers: it is important not to exit the game until the end of the download (it ends when the notification about synchronization with the cloud disappears).
- If a bug occurs with saving and it disappears, then you need to re-activate the cross-saving function in the settings – the files will be loaded and you can continue playing Baldur's Gate 3.
Larian plans to increase the number of saves that can be uploaded to the server, as well as “simplify” use of cross-save. According to the creators of Baldur's Gate 3, the problem is with the Xbox firmware.
Due to a firmware bug, the game thinks that the save was successful when in fact it was not, which results in data loss. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix, but it is unclear when it will be available.
