SJ-100 will probably be renamed
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov in an interview with TASS said that Russian MS-21 and Superjet aircraft will be united under a common brand. The head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yuri Slyusar spoke about this for the first time last year, and now the Deputy Prime Minister said that work in this direction is really underway.
«I won’t hide it, we are working in this direction [merging brands]. I won’t to finally name what decision we are approaching, but obviously we will announce this soon», — said Denis Manturov.
What kind of brand it will be is still unknown, but last year the head of Rostec Sergei Chemezov (UAC is part of Rostec) announced that SJ-100 could change its name to a Russian one. If «MC» in the name MS-21 stands for «long-haul aircraft», then the SJ-100 should become «RS» — regional plane. But these are just designations, names of specific models, not a brand.
