Sony makes money not only on PlayStation consoles, the company has mastered other platforms and provided an additional influx of hundreds of millions of dollars
Users took notice of the recent Sony Interactive Entertainment report for the 2023 fiscal year. Judging by the data presented, the company receives hundreds of millions of dollars from ports of games to PC and other platforms.
During the period from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, Sony was able to earn more than $675 million from ports of PlayStation games (in the table the amount is in millions of Japanese yen, in the line “Other Software”)
Some have mistakenly interpreted this figure as “PC ports of games alone brought Sony $675,” but this includes other sources of income in addition to PC ports, for example:
- Ports to Nintendo Switch
- Ports to Xbox (for example, the discussion participants recalled such franchises as Destiny and MLB The Show, presented on Microsoft consoles ).
- Additional content (outside of PlayStation consoles)
If you compare with similar indicators from Sony for the previous financial year, you can see impressive growth – in the 2022 financial year, ports of PlayStation games brought Sony about $434 million, i.e. the difference is more than $200 million.
