It can withstand extreme temperatures, water immersion and ball impacts
Samsung Display, in addition to the transparent display, showed other interesting developments at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas. For example, a screen called In&Out Flip can be folded in both directions: inward and outward. Both of its sides work as a touch display, so a smartphone with such a display will not need a separate panel on the outside: one screen serves as both a large internal display and a display on the lid. According to the company, this will make folding devices more compact and thinner.
It is very important to make such a display durable, since the screen will, in fact, always be located on the outside of the mobile device and risks damage from falls or impacts. But the South Korean manufacturer has also provided for this: the company claims that it has made the new panels very durable and tested them in extreme conditions. Exhibition visitors can verify that the In&Out Flip screen operates in a temperature range from −20°C to +60°C, and can withstand immersion in water, rubbing with sand and a direct hit from a basketball.
Samsung has not yet announced anything about new devices with an In&Out Flip display. Perhaps it will be used in the next models of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip folding smartphone lines.
