Rings, satellites and much more are clearly visible
Space Telescope «James Webb» (James Webb Space Telescope, JWST) took the second image of Uranus for 2023. The photo looks very unusual and looks more like an illustration for a fantasy story with portals to another dimension.
Pictures taken using a NIRCam near-infrared camera. The final image clearly shows not only Uranus itself, but also its rings and satellites. The rings glow brightly in the infrared, and the telescope's optics even detected an elusive, diffuse inner zeta ring (1986U2R). The mission team said:
With his exceptional sensitivity, Webb captured images of Uranus' faint inner and outer rings, including the elusive Zeta Ring — extremely faint and diffuse ring closest to the planet.
Many of the 27 satellites are also clearly visible, including some faint inner ones and five large satellites – Ariel, Miranda, Oberon, Titania and Umbriel.
The new image gives a good look at the seasonal cloud cap at the planet's north pole, as well as the bright storms sweeping around the cap.
