But supposedly with some changes
While some Chinese companies are developing their own GPUs, others are taking the products of global giants and remaking them into products for China. Montage Technology has introduced its fifth-generation Jintide processor line. But this is not Montage Technology’s own development, but in fact just an Intel CPU.
In this case, we are talking about the newest Emerald Rapids servers, which were presented a week ago. This is not some kind of underground production — Montage Technology has been creating such CPUs since 2019. However, it is unclear whether the Chinese company is collaborating with Intel or whether the former is simply purchasing Xeon CPUs on its own.
Most resources say nothing about any changes that Montage Technology is implementing, but our colleagues from Tom's Hardware claim that the company is adding something of its own to Intel processors. In particular, a certain hardware encryption unit and some functions for monitoring and increasing hardware security. How this is technically implemented is unclear, since the Chinese company cannot directly change the crystals themselves.
The Montage Technology line is represented by five processors, with the older one having only 48 cores, while the Intel line has a model with 64 cores. This is because Intel simply does not sell older models to everyone.
