According to the latest rumors, the device will run at an “insanely low” clock speed in portable mode to ensure better battery life.
During the Broken Silicon podcast, the performance of Nintendo's upcoming console was discussed. NVIDIA staff allegedly wanted the console to achieve 4 teraflops in docked mode, which would have required much higher clock speeds than anticipated.
In handheld mode, the console will run at “insanely low” frequencies, possibly below 800 MHz for several reasons. In addition to better battery life, the system will generate less heat and noise, which is important for a console aimed at children.
Moore's Law is Dead and The Phawks suggest that Ray tracing is present primarily in Nintendo's AAA games, given that the company does an unusually large amount of optimization work to achieve the best image quality with acceptable performance. Third party developers will only use NVIDIA DLSS technology.
