Culture Minister Jeong Byung-kyuk discussed Korea's gaming sector in a recent Korea Times publication. Speaking about the country's gaming industry, he noted that two years ago its revenue was $16.04 billion, making it the 4th largest market in the world.
He further stated that in the next five years, Korean developers will pay more attention to console games. He wants to create a healthy AAA console gaming culture by 2028.
These efforts will help the country reduce its dependence on online and mobile gaming platforms. As a result, fans can expect more hits from the developers such as Stellar Blade and Lies of P.
Since these teams have demonstrated a willingness to cooperate with both PlayStation and Xbox, future games may continue to use exclusivity as a way to fund development and launch of projects.
This could also lead to various teams moving toward subscription services like Game Pass.
Fans can expect these types of games to receive larger budgets in the future, potentially allowing the region's developers to match the industry's biggest titles in terms of production quality.
Right now The First Berserker: Khazan and Crimson Desert look potentially strong.
