Radeon video cards will finally learn to work well with ray tracing? RT cores in the RDNA 4 architecture will be completely new

by alex

In RDNA 3 they are only slightly improved relative to RDNA 2

Radeon RX 8000 video cards may not be able to offer flagship levels of performance, but with ray tracing they will likely perform much better than the current generation.

According to insider Kepler, the RDNA 4 architecture contains RT cores, which are completely new compared to RDNA 3. But the RT cores in RDNA 3, in turn, were only an improved version of the cores from RDNA 2, which manifested itself in approximately the same catastrophic drop in performance in many games when ray tracing was activated.

Of course, the very fact that the RT cores are completely new does not mean that they will be much better than the current ones, but there is hope for this, and there have been corresponding rumors before.

Recall that the PlayStation 5 Pro console will supposedly have a ray tracing unit from the RDNA 4 architecture, so in these particular tasks the console will be two to four times faster than the PS5.

The Kepler insider has repeatedly shared detailed information about the characteristics of future AMD CPUs and GPUs, in particular platforms for game consoles. He also revealed the features of the PS5 Slim at one time.
