The car will go into production at the end of this year
In Togliatti within the framework of the «Zhiguli Mile» AvtoVAZ showed a prototype of the modified Lada Niva Sport. The machine differs from the prototype shown last year and, probably, it is in this version of the machine that it will go into mass production by the end of this year.
Under the hood of the Lada Niva Sport there is a 1.6-liter 16-valve engine from the Lada Granta Sport, producing 118 hp. when refueling with regular gasoline and 120 hp. – when refueling «hundredth» gasoline. The engine has been adapted for longitudinal installation: the shafts, intake and exhaust systems have been replaced.
The air intake on the hood remains, there is a snorkel, and extended wheel arches. An important innovation – disc rear brakes, which was not present on previous prototypes. There is also something new under the bottom: instead of a driveshaft on crosspieces – shaft on CV joints.
In the cabin there are many elements borrowed from the Lada Granta and Lada Vesta: steering column levers, light control unit, gearbox and transfer case shift levers (the transfer case is now controlled by one lever). The car has a new central tunnel and new seats.
