At the Chicago Auto Show, Kia presented the 2025 K5 sedan in American specification. Along with a redesigned front and rear end, the midsize sedan gets new technology, more standard features and a new engine for base models.
Gone is the 180-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine previously found in most K5s. Instead, a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, new to the K5, produces 191 hp. for all trim levels except GT. The new engine is still paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is only available on the GT-Line.
The much more powerful GT returns with the same powertrain. It's again powered by a 290-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that it shares with the Hyundai Sonata N Line. The sportiest K5 features larger brakes, unique suspension tuning and wider tires on larger 19-inch wheels.
Like the Korean version, the American K5 features new headlights and taillights for the restyled front and rear end. The updated front end includes new amber-colored daytime running lights cut into the front of the K5 in a zigzag pattern. The taillights at the rear are larger than before and cut into the bumper.
The base LXS trim comes with a set of 16-inch wheels, while the EX and GT-Line get a set of 18-inch wheels. At the top of the range, the GT gets 19-inch wheels wrapped in 245/40R-19 Pirelli P-Zero rubber. The GT also gets a standard set of bright green brake calipers to match the seat stitching.
An optional new 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a new standard 12.3-inch central touchscreen are housed under a shared glass panel. Kia has added wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features across the K5 lineup. The screen is also more responsive and over-the-air updates are available.
HVAC and audio controls are on a small screen. The changes for 2025 are rounded out by a new center console with larger cupholders, a wireless charging pad, and USB-C ports front and rear.
Sales of the new product in the USA will start in the spring.
