It looks like Apple isn't going to give up. The company says it is committed to developing its own 5G modem

But it's unclear how long it will take

It seems that Apple is still not going to give up developing its own 5G modem. At least this conclusion can be drawn from a fresh interview with the company's senior vice president of hardware technology, Johny Srouji.

A CNBC journalist directly asked him to comment on rumors that development of the modem had been discontinued. Of course, Srouj did not say anything intelligible, but stated that Apple is interested in its own modem and it has teams that can implement this project.

That is, apparently, the Cupertino giant is still not going to curtail development, although you should always keep in mind the possibility that at the time of the interview the company was simply not ready to talk about closing the project.
