Microsoft canceled the project of updated Xbox Series with AI functions

Consoles would get machine learning support for improved game scaling

Microsoft, judging by its latest comments, is still preparing some kind of intermediate generation of Xbox. True, this is not guaranteed, since no one has stated anything directly yet. But, what’s interesting is that even if updated consoles come out, as it turns out, they could be different — with artificial intelligence.

Microsoft was reportedly working on a project for an updated Xbox Series S and Series X with a GPU based on the RDNA 3 architecture and some machine learning functions for upscale technology. That is, apparently, we are talking about hardware units for FSR operation.

Unfortunately, there are no details, and the project was canceled before Microsoft and AMD finished developing the corresponding hybrid processors.

Which is important, so one of the reasons for closing the project. Allegedly, Microsoft and its partners feared that with the release of updated consoles, there would be four console models on the market with different APUs, which would complicate game optimization. This suggests that the updated Xbox may not come out in any form, and Microsoft had something else in mind in its recent statement.
