In laptops with such CPUs it will not be possible to increase the amount of RAM
Intel at CES 2024 not only presented the remnants of the Raptor Lake Refresh processor line, but also showed a completely new CPU from the Lunar Lake line.
These processors will appear this year, probably at the very end, and in general will replace Meteor Lake. But at the same time, this will not be a regular update.
As you can see, Lunar Lake have their own RAM on a common substrate with the CPU, as is implemented in the Apple M platforms. This is done to reduce size, since Lunar Lake will be aimed at compact mobile PCs. & nbsp;
Because of this, among other things, you should not expect a large number of cores from such processors. For example, the demo sample had only four large and four small cores.
As for memory, it is a fast LPDDR5X-8533, and its volume can vary from 8 to 32 GB. Of course, the choice of CPU in such conditions becomes more important, since it will no longer be possible to expand the amount of RAM after purchasing a laptop.
It’s also worth noting that Lunar Lake CPUs will have iGPUs based on the new architecture. The same thing on which the Battlemage line of gaming video cards will be based, which is expected in the middle of this year.
Lunar Lake will be available in TDP variants from 17 to 30 W, but it will also be possible to limit power consumption to 8 W for systems with passive cooling.
