All main components, including asynchronous traction drive, power equipment and control systems are domestic
According to Russian Railways, the domestic import-substituted electric locomotive 3ES8 «Malachite», put into operation at the end of last year, completed its first trip. It delivered a freight train of 77 cars weighing 7,018 tons from the Babaevo station in the Vologda region to the Luzhskaya station in the Leningrad region. All main components of the electric locomotive, including the asynchronous traction drive, power equipment and intelligent control systems, are developed and manufactured in Russia. The import-substituted passenger “Lastochka” also received a similar domestically produced drive.
«Malachite» equipped with auto-guidance, diagnostics and traffic safety systems. They automatically transmit information about their technical condition. The load-bearing body of the locomotive is made in the form of a one-piece frameless structure; this solution provides maximum protection for the locomotive crew during a collision. Russian Railways notes that the new electric locomotive will be able to drive trains weighing up to 7.1 thousand tons on difficult mountain sections of the Trans-Siberian Railway and up to 9 thousand tons – in the European part of Russia.
