If you close the lid of the new MacBook Air, performance will drop by half. Tests have shown that working in this mode is problematic for a laptop

But the issue can be resolved with a good stand

The updated MacBook Air on SoC M3, as we already know, turned out to be quite hot, since it does not have an active cooling system. It turned out that in one of the operating modes this leads to an almost twofold drop in performance.

The problem is that we are talking about a use case that is quite popular — working with a laptop with an external screen and a closed lid. Even in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme test, which cannot be called the biggest test for a PC, the processor temperature rises to almost 115 degrees, and performance drops from 8083 to 4198 points, that is, almost twice.

Of course, not everyone uses a laptop in this mode, but there are many such users. You can also solve the problem with little blood — It is enough to buy a stand to place the laptop vertically when closed. True, specifically in the Max Tech tests, they used a very expensive Svalt Cooling Dock stand for $280, which itself is a radiator. It is not a fact that a stand that is not designed for additional heat removal will significantly improve the temperature regime.
