For the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant Turkey supplied materials and equipment worth $650 million, as reported by the head of the Turkish Institute of Standards, Mahmut Sami Sahin.

«Our institute provides technical support for manufacturers and standardization of materials and equipment in accordance with the technical requirements of the Akkuyu NPP, creates testing and testing programs for the project, seismic calculations. Thanks to this, domestic materials and equipment were purchased for use in the construction of the Akkuyu NPP. for 650 million dollars», said Sami Sahin.

He added that reinforcement and steel wire alone were supplied in the amount of $300 million. The rest went to other materials and equipment.

It was previously reported that the overall potential for localizing work at the Akkuyu NPP is $6.5 billion, contracts worth $5 billion have been signed with local contractors, and technology and equipment are 98% independent of imports.

Sami Sahin stated that this practice «ensures the development of Turkish industry and increases its experience».

Recall that Akkuyu NPP is being created by the Russian state corporation Rosatom. This is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and the largest nuclear construction project in the world at the moment. The project includes four power units with Russian-designed VVER generation III+ reactors. The capacity of each nuclear power plant unit will be 1.2 thousand MW. This is the world's first nuclear power plant implemented using the Build-Own-Operate model.
