The official premiere of the SUV took place on November 9
As Autohome reports, deliveries of the BYD Leopard 5 SUV, a local analogue of the Land Cruiser 300 with a distinctly off-road design, have started in China. The car is quite popular: within 72 hours of the full premiere on November 9, more than 10 thousand preliminary purchase orders were submitted. And now, after just two weeks, the company has begun delivering commercial vehicles to its first customers.
BYD Leopard 5 is classified as a mid-size SUV in China: dimensions are 4890 x 1970 x 1920 mm with a wheelbase length of 2800 mm. For comparison, it is 75 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser 300 in overall length, but is only 50 mm shorter in wheelbase.
At the same time, the BYD Leopard 5 has a much more powerful power plant than the Toyota SUV. The hybrid system consists of two electric motors with peak power of 272 and 387 hp. There is also a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 184 hp. The total output of the power plant is 686 hp. BYD Leopard 5 accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The SUV received a traction battery with a capacity of 31.8 kWh; from a 100 kW terminal it is charged to 50% (from 30% to 80%) in 16 minutes. If necessary, BYD Leopard 5 can power electrical appliances from its traction battery, with a maximum power of 6 kW. A fully charged and refueled SUV (fuel tank capacity is 85 liters) can travel up to 1,200 km.
The dynamics of a sports car are combined here with excellent off-road capabilities: approach and departure angles are 35° and 32°, minimum ground clearance is 220 mm. The suspension is adaptive; if necessary, the body can be raised even more above the ground. BYD Leopard 5 is also capable of towing trailers weighing up to 2.5 tons.
The car is five-seater. There are three screens in the cabin, like, for example, the new Porsche Panamera or Geely Monjaro. The driver and passenger displays have a diagonal of 12.3 inches; the media system includes a screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and a resolution of 2.5K.
The retail price of BYD Leopard 5 in China ranges from 40.5 to 49.3 thousand dollars.
