Worst result in 10 months
In April 2024, the volume of imports of new passenger cars into Russia decreased sharply. According to the analytical agency «Avtostat», only 58 thousand new cars were imported into the country during the month – 34% less than in March. This is the lowest figure in the last 10 months.
Things are not the best with the import of cars with mileage older than 3 years. In April, their number was 32 thousand units, which is 22% lower than the March result.
Such a sharp drop in imports can be associated with the unstable situation in the foreign exchange market, as well as with the new recycling fee. Many companies delivered a lot of cars before April 1, so the collapse in April was expected.
At the same time, in the first four months of 2024, the total import of new cars to Russia amounted to 270.3 thousand new cars, which is 2.2 times more than a year earlier, and about 115 thousand used ones (at 19% less).
