In Lithuania, a ban on the use of cars with Russian state license plates began to apply. The ban came into force on March 11 at midnight local time.

Exceptions are made for diplomatic vehicles and transport transiting through Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region and back. All other owners of cars with Russian license plates had to either leave Lithuania or re-register their cars with Lithuanian license plates.

According to the Lithuanian Customs Department, as of March 10, there were about 50 cars with Russian license plates in the country. If these vehicles were not taken out of the country, they are subject to confiscation, and their owners may be fined between 200 and 6 thousand euros.

Transit vehicles can stay on the territory of Lithuania for no more than 24 hours.
