It will go on sale on February 23
BYD announced that its best-selling BYD Dolphin hatchback will receive an annual update called Honor Edition on February 23. The car will have a larger battery and, according to local media, will be cheaper than the previous version in 2023.
BYD recently declared a price war on ICE vehicles, announcing upgrades to its PHEV models at prices lower than ICE alternatives. The new BYD Qin Plus Honor Edition and Destroyer 05 Honor Edition models start at $11,000. BYD is likely targeting affordable best-selling ICE vehicles such as the Volkswagen Lavida or Toyota Corolla. Let us remind you that BYD stopped producing cars with internal combustion engines in April 2022.
The previous version of BYD Dolphin had only an LFP battery with a capacity of 45 kW·h, designed for a range of 420 km. The 2024 update will add a package with a 60 kW·h battery with a range of 520 km. The engine remains the same: its power is 70 kW and peak torque of 180 N·m. Dimensions are 4125 × 1770 × 1570 mm, and the wheelbase is 2700 mm.
There are a few changes inside. The car will be equipped with a new USB-C charging port and a 50W wireless charging pad. The seats have also been upgraded, with front seat ventilation added. More details will be published on February 23.
Last year's version of Dolphin costs from $14,500 in China.
