The engine cover of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 fell off during takeoff from Denver International Airport on Sunday, slightly nicking the flap. The incident is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, and the airline has not yet provided information on when the plane and its engine were last serviced.
“Our maintenance teams are checking the aircraft,” Southwest Airlines said.
Boeing referred to Southwest's statement when CNBC asked for comment.
The affected Southwest Airlines plane is an older Boeing 737 model than the Max jets, which entered service in June 2015.

Also last week, Southwest grounded a 737-800 flight at Texas International Airport after the crew reported engine problems.
In January, one of the Boeing planes had an emergency exit door fall off while flying at an altitude of 5 km. A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board indicates that the incident occurred because four key bolts used to secure the door were missing.

Boeing's quality control problems have spilled over into safety issues, slowing deliveries of new Max planes. Major US customers such as Southwest and United say the pauses have also affected their growth plans.
