Lada retained 28% of the market, which is 8% lower than a year earlier
Russian auto giant AvtoVAZ faces serious challenges as Chinese automakers continue to gain market share in Russia. According to Otkritie Bank experts, the total share of Chinese brands has already exceeded 50% of the domestic car market, with Chery brands alone accounting for 16% of total sales.
In the first quarter of 2024, Haval became the leader among Chinese brands, increasing sales by 125% and selling 37.5 thousand cars. Four Haval crossover models are among the top ten best-selling models on the Russian market. Sales of Jolion increased by 111%, F7 – by 89%, Dargo – by 177% compared to the same period last year. Other Great Wall brands such as Tank, Wey and Ora are also showing positive growth.
Chery sold 33 thousand cars in the first quarter, increasing sales by 74%. Of these, 16.8 thousand were for the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro model. The Omoda brand sold 8.5 thousand cars, mainly the C5 crossover. Sales of Jaecoo amounted to 4.6 thousand units, and Exeed – 7.7 thousand
Geely showed an impressive growth of 130%, selling 29.1 thousand cars and increasing its market share from 6.9% to 8.5%. About 8 thousand more Geely cars were imported through parallel imports.
Although some Chinese brands such as Changan, Li Xiang, Jetour and Belgee did not provide sales data to the AEB, information from JSC «PPK» indicates their growing presence in the market. Changan received electronic passports for 20.2 thousand cars, Li Xiang – for 8 thousand, Jetour – for 5.1 thousand, and Belgee – for 4.3 thousand
