As expected, a significant part of the announcements at Apple WWDC 2024 was dedicated to artificial intelligence, although the company abandoned the term and instead used “Apple Intelligence” when talking about machine learning-based features.
When ChatGPT took over the world in 2022, and then Google and Microsoft took over the baton, Apple was in catch-up status, and is finally ready to correct this situation.
Apple Intelligence
Apple says AI features will work for you in apps: they'll manage notifications, write or summarize text in email (with a choice of message tone), or transfer tasks “from app to app” (e.g. you can ask the AI to play a podcast that was sent to you in the messenger).
The company notes that all AI features will be processed on-device to preserve privacy (you'll need an A17 Pro or M series chip to reap the benefits), but there's a so-called “semantic index” that will still collect personal data when it's needed. and show them in applications.
Going forward, artificial intelligence functions could be moved to what Apple calls a “private cloud” – although this data will not be stored on servers, and the company adds that it will not have access to it (it is noted that independent experts will verify the veracity of Apple's statements).
Finally, smart Siri
Apple says that in iOS 18, users will be able to speak to Siri in natural language or enter text with a task, and the assistant will now apparently be able to understand the context (taking into account previous actions).

Siri will get a new ability to perform actions in programs for you – for example, you can ask it to take a selfie when you look into the camera, then save it and send it to a friend. The assistant will be able to search the gallery (to find, for example, photos of documents), copy information from the image (for example, ID number) and paste it into the desired web form.
Writing, Genmoji and Image Playground
In Mail, when you type a message, you can ask Siri to write it for you, and change the tone if necessary (and such options are available anywhere in the system where you can enter text).

Apple also added a “Genmoji” feature that will instantly generate emoji-like reactions, and an image creation tool called Image Playground (the feature works in its own app and is available in several others).

AI will also be coming to the Photos app – you can search for items in your library, or use features like Google's Magic Eraser, such as the ability to erase something from a photo.
Apple agreement with OpenAI – exists
ChatGPT 4o will be coming to iOS, macOS and iPadOS “later this year” as a chatbot that Siri can contact… when it cannot complete your task. Apple said it is starting with the best chatbot but will support other AI models in the future.
