NVIDIA’s presentation at CES 2024 starts in a few hours (18:00 p.m. Kiev), but the main announcement has actually already taken place – all the details about the updated Ada Lovelace video cards, GeForce RTX 40 Super series, were leaked ahead of time by Videocardz.
Like GeForce RTX 40, only Super
Characteristics and prices of GeForce RTX 40 series Super video cards have not been a secret for a long time – thanks to insiders and specialized sites. Now that the tables and slides from the official presentation have appeared, you can fill in the gaps and summarize everything. In short, all the recent leaks regarding the RTX 40 Super line have been confirmed: it includes updated models RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070. The new trio of 3D accelerators has improved characteristics and higher performance compared to the already familiar ones.
The price of the RTX 4080 Super in the USA is $999, which is $200 less than the original RTX 4080 cost at launch. But the prices of the RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super remained at the level of the original video card models without the Super prefix – $799 and $599, respectively. At the end of last year, reports appeared about the cessation of production of the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti, and now there is indirect confirmation – these models are not mentioned on one of the slides with the updated line. At the same time, the RTX 4070 will remain and coexist with the RTX 4070 Super.
Super video cards GeForce RTX 40 series are distinguished primarily by higher performance of shader units, tensor cores and RT cores, which are responsible for accelerating ray tracing. This emphasis is hard to miss in the slides above. But NVIDIA hasn’t forgotten about CUDA cores either: the RTX 4080 Super has 10,240 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR6X memory (23 Gbps), and a standard Total Graphics Power (TGP) of 320 W. At the same time, NVIDIA assures that the RTX 4080 Super will require about 246 W in games and 15 W during idle time. In terms of performance, NVIDIA marketers promise «4K Full RT Gaming and Super-Fast Gen AI», as well as twice the performance of the RTX 3080Ti.
One step below will be the RTX 4070 Ti Super — with 8448 CUDA cores and a 16 GB GDDR6X video buffer. The memory upgrade is undoubtedly the most notable feature of this SKU – we're promised «2.5 times the performance of the RTX 3070 Ti». However, this rating refers to DLSS Frame Generation support in individual games.
Finally, the RTX 4070 Super, which can easily be called the most significant update in the series, because it has 20% more cores than the non-SUPER variant. The CUDA core count has increased to 7680 cores and, contrary to some rumors, 36MB of L2 cache has been confirmed, not 48MB as some had speculated. This corresponds to the size of the L2 cache of the non-SUPER version. On average, the RTX 4070 Super is expected to consume 200W during gaming and 11W when idling. NVIDIA says that the RTX 4070 SUPER will outperform the RTX 3090, but without specifics yet.

The RTX 4070 Super and 4080 Super will be offered in the reference Founders Edition design, and the reference RTX 40 Super is indeed finished in deep black. NVIDIA RTX 40 Super video cards will go on sale during the second half of January: the RTX 4070 Super will be the first to appear on January 17, followed by the RTX 4070 Ti Super on January 24, and the RTX 4080 Super will join them on January 31. It is still unknown when the new video cards will be released in Ukraine and how much they will cost.
