While hard drive manufacturers are dreaming of HDDs with a capacity of 40+ TB

At a press conference held in Seoul, SK Hynix announced the development of a 300 TB solid-state drive. This device will be part of a broad portfolio of solutions created for data centers focused on AI solutions.

Market research cited by SK Hynix suggests that the total amount of data generated worldwide in the AI era (that is, data generated by both humans and AI) will increase from 15 ZB (zettabyte) in 2014 to 660 ZB in 2030. Accordingly, to store large amounts of data, completely new drives will be required, which will include a 300-terabyte model.

Characteristics of the drive are not given, but it will probably be made in a 3.5-inch case — approximately the same as SSD Nimbus Data ExaDrive.
