Interestingly, none of the epic battle scenes on the posters are actually not shown in the film itself.

Five promotional images for “Rise of the States” show post-apocalyptic scenes in major US cities engulfed in conflict: here is a giant sphere in the smoldering Las Vegas, a floating weapons installation in a lake outside Los Angeles, boats with refugees , floating down the river to Chicago and the like. In general, all the scenes hint at destruction in iconic places – although none of them were shown in the film.

States Rising cost A24 $50 million, but promotional images hint at a much more expensive film, which has displeased many viewers.

“None of this happens in the movie,” one commenter wrote on the studio’s Instagram post. “You're selling a film that doesn't exist, and that's very strange. I love A24 with all my heart, but I'm embarrassed by this situation.”

There are also traditional AI hallucinations when it comes to the geography of objects – for example, two Marina Towers buildings in Chicago are actually located on the same bank of the river, while on the poster they are depicted on opposite sides . A car with three doors or a giant swan in a lake also does not inspire confidence in technology.

“You know very well how the film community feels about the use of AI-generated content,” another user wrote. “And the negative reaction to the footage generated by the neural network for the horror film “Midnight with the Devil” was more than enough to make it clear to everyone: WE DON’T WANT THIS. How stupid of the marketing team to even think this is acceptable.”

In a comment to The Hollywood Reporter, a person close to the studio said that neural networks were used to help people “better imagine the nationwide impact of the fictional war in the film”:

“These are images of artificial intelligence inspired by the film,” says the source. “The whole film is a big 'what if,' and so we wanted to continue that thought with powerful imagery of iconic monuments with a dystopian realism.”

The film States Rising, directed by director-screenwriter Alex Garland, debuted quite successfully at the box office – with a record for the studio of $25.7 million. Ironically, before that, Garland was best known for his work on the film Ex Machina. 2014, which warned about the dangers of AI.
