Working title – “Yakovlev”
Last year, officials from the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) commented on the possibility of renaming Superjet aircraft, and now the new working name of the passenger airliner has become known — «Yakovlev». The head of Rostec (UAC is part of the state corporation) Sergei Chemezov spoke about this.
«We have all this under the Design Bureau named after. A.S. Yakovleva, and I think that it will be so — «Yakovlev», — he said, answering a question about the new brand of Russian passenger aircraft.
It should be noted that the Superjet was nevertheless renamed last year: from SSJ-100 it turned into SJ-100 (and at the beginning the airliner was called Russian Regional Jet 95 or RRJ95). But if the brand name is different, the model name will also change. For example, the airliner may be called the Yak-100. The MS-21 will probably be renamed at the same time.
