Tanks hold 25 liters of fuel
Introduced the Yamaha Drive H2, based on the existing Drive2 Concierge 4 golf cart but with a new powertrain. It is touted as the world's first golf cart with an internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen.
Yamaha Drive H2 is equipped with a pair of high-pressure hydrogen tanks, each of which holds 25 liters of fuel. One is located under the driver's seat, and the other is mounted on the back of the rear seat. The idea behind this car is to demonstrate that the conventional engine can continue to exist even as companies strive to decarbonize.
Yamaha has already created hydrogen-powered generators and recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs) that do not emit CO2 during operation. This technology is also currently being developed by another Japanese brand, Toyota. The automotive giant built prototype GR Yaris and GR Corolla race cars, which retained the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine but were modified to run on hydrogen.
Yamaha says it will continue to develop and test hydrogen internal combustion engines. The goal is to prepare them for production vehicles.
