OTA support – just for show?
Owners of Chinese cars in Russia often complain about the shortcomings of the proprietary infotainment system: either the screen is buggy or the navigation does not work. But, as it turned out, the Chinese themselves complain about the multimedia functions of their cars. Chery Tiggo 8 Plus is a prime example of this.
Dozens of complaints from owners of this crossover (in Russia the car is called Chery Tiggo 8) appeared on the Chinese platform Car Quality Network. The main complaint is that the over-the-air (OTA) update function – completely useless: car enthusiasts write that in two years of owning a car (complaints about Tiggo 8 Plus 2021 and 2022) they have not received a single update. One of them said this: «The card that comes with the kit is garbage. Even after crossing the intersection, the reaction is zero». Others also complain about the navigation system: it often leads to dead ends, and the map can simply freeze. Another problem – «black screen».
Some owners took the situation into their own hands: «hacked» media system and updated the map themselves. But not everyone is so brave: there are fears that such actions could lead to loss of warranty – and therefore car enthusiasts are waiting for the official update.
But will he be? Nobody knows. Chery's official response to these claims has absolutely no specifics: «Since the car software is individual for each version, the navigation map will be updated along with the car system update. When the car system is updated, the car will report it».
