SUVs are gaining popularity
Volkswagen announced that it delivered approximately 4.87 million vehicles in 2023, up 6.7% year-on-year, achieving growth in all regions.
Delivery of electric vehicles increased by 21.1% and amounted to 394,000 vehicles. China, Germany, USA, UK, Sweden, France, Norway and Belgium have become the main markets for Volkswagen electric vehicles.
D Germany supply volume model ID. 4 amounted to approximately 30,000 units (an increase of 62.9%). ID. 4, the first all-electric «global model» Volkswagen was also warmly received in the United States, with nearly 38,000 vehicles shipped, up 84.2% from 2022. All-electric compact car ID. 3 has performed particularly well in the Chinese market, with more than 75,000 units shipped in 2023, up 200% from 2022.
In 2023, sales of Volkswagen crossovers and SUVs accounted for 54.2% of the total, up 14.9% from 2022. In the United States, more than 81% of Volkswagen vehicles were classified as SUVs. In Europe, the T-Roc remains Volkswagen's best-selling model, setting new records in Germany, the UK, Spain and Turkey.
Since its debut in 1975, the Polo has sold more than 20 million cars in 48 years, making it one of the most successful models in its class. In 2023, Polo deliveries to the Brazilian market exceeded 110,000 vehicles, setting a record. The company delivered about 33,500 Polos to Germany, which is 44.1% more than in 2022.
An important event in 2024 will be that, 50 years after the launch of the first Golf, Volkswagen will present the latest evolution of the eighth generation Golf, which will be completely updated in terms of appearance, driver assistance systems, drivetrain, infotainment systems and software. Pre-sales of the vehicle are expected to begin in the spring of 2024.
