Currently nuclear energy brings Taiwan only 7% of all generation
TSMC is the world's largest manufacturer of semiconductor products. It is also the largest consumer of energy in Taiwan. The scale of production within the country is such that legislators are ready to change the current rules governing nuclear energy.
Members of the current planning body of Taiwan's National Legislative Assembly have indicated their willingness to amend laws related to nuclear power.
The current government, which will soon be replaced, did not want to increase the share of nuclear energy in the national energy system. Now its figure is only 7%. The new government is ready to change the rules if such a measure receives public support.
At one time, Taiwan had to significantly increase its electricity production because of TSMC, and the company’s production volumes are only growing, so the problem will not go away. The WCCF Tech resource, unfortunately, does not specify how much Taiwan can increase its nuclear energy production if the amendments are adopted.
