Huawei revolution is canceled: the latest 5nm SoC Kirin 9006C is produced at TSMC facilities, not SMIC

Probably just a renamed Kirin 9000

It seems that Huawei and SMIC have not yet made a revolution. Disassembly of the company's new laptop showed that the Kirin 9006C single-chip system, which is produced according to 5 nm standards, is actually produced not by the Chinese SMIC, but by TSMC.

Recall that TSMC does not work with Huawei after the imposition of US sanctions. This means that, with a high degree of probability, Kirin 9006C — this is the same Kirin 9000 that TSMC produced for Huawei according to 5 nm standards just before the sanctions. The parameters of the Kirin 9006C that we know are exactly the same as the parameters of the original 2020 SoC. Apparently, Huawei still has some reserves of these platforms. In addition, it is possible that the Qingyun L540 laptop uses partially defective SoCs.

As a result, it turns out that SMIC can only produce 7-nanometer platforms for Huawei for now. This is also a very significant achievement, which has made quite a splash, but it has not yet come to the point of switching to 5 nm standards.
